Transit dose measurements using alanine and diode-based dosimeters

The growing interest in low-dose (< 100 Gy) radiation processing applications has raised concerns about accurately measuring the absorbed dose irradiated materials. Depending on irradiator design, transit time due to radioactive source movement (or product itself) until stable irradiation position might affect predicted dose. This work aims evaluate a 60Co Gammacell 220-Nordion irradiator, which sources settled at bottom of lead shielding. When facility is on, and dosimeter are mechanically guided down position, hereafter selected exposure starts be counted. At end irradiation, both rise initial enabling them gathered by operator. continuously different rates during its fall movement, preventing from being obtained straightforward. experimental approach adopted assess time, thus dose, using an online diode-based dosimetry system previously calibrated against reference standard alanine dosimeters. agreement between doses attained with diode (0.41 ± 0.02) Gy ((0.38 0.01) validates method herein proposed.
